Meet London Marathon 2026 fundraiser, Joe

Rosie’s Runner, Joe, with his pet and training buddy, Ricky.

With two fundraising places secured for Rosie’s Trust in the London Marathon 2026, the charity is excited to introduce the first confirmed Rosie’s Runner, Joe Kennedy, who will be raising vital funds to help care for people by caring for their pets.

Can you tell us a little about yourself?

I’m Joe Kennedy, 46, and I live in Belfast with my wife, two kids, and our black Labrador, Ricky. I’ve always been keen on sports, and I’ve taken up running more seriously in the last few years. My first half marathon was in Berlin in April 2022.

Have you ever taken on a challenge like the London Marathon before?

I’ve completed three marathons to date, and I’m set to run the Berlin Marathon on 21st September. I was supposed to run the Dublin Marathon this year as well, but I decided to take a break to prepare properly for running the London Marathon for Rosie’s Trust.

What inspired you to sign up for the London Marathon this year?

My wife is also running the London Marathon, and I thought it would be great to join her. I had a terrible case of FOMO when she ran the Chicago Marathon, so I decided to try and get to do a Marathon Major myself. I’m lucky to be getting to do two in such a short time.

Why did you choose to run for Rosie’s Trust?

As a dog owner, I understand the comfort and companionship that pets can provide. I’ve also cared for a cat while its owner was in and out of hospital. Some people may have few relatives or friends, and a pet can be the companion that brightens their lives.

Unfortunately, these individuals are often the least able to arrange care for their pets if they need to go into hospital or face other challenges. An organisation like Rosie’s Trust can make a real difference to people whose pets might be a rare source of joy and needed comfort.

What do you hope your fundraising will achieve for Rosie’s Trust?

It would be wonderful if my fundraising enables Rosie’s Trust to help more people in Northern Ireland to keep their pets in situations where it might not otherwise be possible.

What are you most looking forward to on London Marathon day?

I’m looking forward to enjoying the atmosphere – I’ve heard it’s brilliant. At the moment, I just want to run the London Marathon for fun, not for a specific time.

Do you have any fun or creative fundraising ideas planned?

I’m organising an informal Padel tournament with my friends at the end of September. It should be great fun, and hopefully we’ll raise a few hundred pounds for Rosie’s Trust.

How can people support you on your marathon journey?
