BECOME A ROSIE’S TRUST VOLUNTEER

At Rosie’s Trust, our 200+ highly trained volunteers are at the heart of everything we do. Thanks to their dedication and compassion, we can provide vital support to people who are no longer able to care for their pet independently, ensuring their best friend receives the care and attention they deserve - in their own homes.

By joining our team as a volunteer, you can make a meaningful difference to the lives of people and pets in Northern Ireland.

FELINE OR CANINE SUPPORT
VOLUNTEER

Illustration of two cats and two dogs, with a tennis ball, in red outline style.

As a Feline or Canine Support volunteer, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring our beneficiaries’ pets receive the care, attention, and love they need. From walks and feeding to vet visits and playtime, you’ll help maintain a happy and stress-free routine for pets whose owners
need a helping hand.

Before matching our Pet Support volunteers with a cat or dog, we meet with the owner to fully understand the pet’s history and routine, and to discuss any potential issues or problems they may have. Some of the pet's needs may be partially met by the owner or the owner's carers, so each pet will have their own ‘Action Plan' based on their specific requirements.

Typical tasks can include:

Feeding and water changing

Walks and exercise

Play and interaction

Providing access to toileting

Grooming and vet visits

Photos of pets: a happy black and white dog outdoors, a curious tabby cat indoors, and a small dog lying on a couch with a tennis ball.

When you are matched up with your pet and owner, we will fully guide you through the plan.

This is to ensure that all the volunteers on the pet’s team are consistent in their interactions, to create a safe and happy environment where the dog or cat can receive the full benefits of your care.

FOSTER CARER

Our fostering service supports existing beneficiaries who need temporary care
for their pets while they are in hospital
or hospice care.

As a foster carer, you'll provide a safe and loving home for a dog or cat on a short-term basis to prevent them from being placed in a cattery or kennel. This approach is much less stressful for both the pet and their owner, ensuring the pet remains in a caring environment until they can return home.

The journey to becoming a foster carer begins with a home visit from one of our team. This allows us to assess the suitability of your home for fostering and ensure it's the right fit for both you and the pet.

Over time you build-up a relationship with your beneficiary and their pet. I love coming in the door and seeing how happy they both are to see me. I would definitely recommend volunteering.”

“I have been walking Zara for the last three years and I really enjoy getting out to walk her. I can see how important the bond between Zara and her owner is. It is a great team to be a part of where we can help in a small way.”
