Trustee / Assistant Treasurer Rosie’s Trust Voluntary role

Rosie’s Trust is seeking a finance-qualified Trustee to support the Treasurer and Board in overseeing the financial affairs of the charity. Established in 2015, Rosie’s Trust is Northern Ireland’s only charity that cares for people by caring for their pets. Cancer patients, people receiving end of life care and older people with mobility issues who live alone are often faced with a stark choice: to refuse medical treatment or to give up their pets, who may be their sole source of emotional support. Rosie’s Trust prevents people from having to make that terrible choice. Our team of 200 highly-trained volunteers care for our beneficiaries’ pets in their homes when they are no longer able to do so. Typically, volunteers offer daily walks, play, feeding, grooming, administration of medication and/or vet visits. We also provide foster care and will rehome our beneficiaries’ pets if they so wish. We provide our services free of charge, 365 days of the year. We are now looking for an additional Trustee with finance expertise who can bring sound judgement, constructive challenge, and support to the Board as we continue to develop the charity.

What the role will involve

· Supporting the Treasurer and Board in overseeing the charity’s finances.

· Reviewing management information, budgets, and financial performance.

· Providing oversight and challenge on reserves, cashflow, controls, and financial sustainability.

· Helping ensure that financial reporting and governance arrangements remain appropriate and effective.

· Acting as a sounding board to the Treasurer on finance matters.

About you

· Qualified accountant or finance professional with relevant experience.

· Able to interpret financial information and explain it clearly to non-finance colleagues.

· Good judgement, independence, and a willingness to contribute at Board level.

· Sympathy with the mission of Rosie’s Trust.

Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential.

Time commitment The Board currently meets online every six weeks and in person every third meeting. Meetings usually last around 2 hours. There may be some light preparation and ad hoc support between meetings.

Please note that Rosie’s Trust also employs a part-time Finance Manager, so this role is focused on oversight, support, and governance rather than day-to-day bookkeeping.
