Rosie’s Trust and TORC caring for people by caring for their pets together
Local charities, Rosie’s Trust and Trauma & Orthopaedics Research Charity (TORC), are partnering to support older people with mobility issues to keep their pets by their side.
Celebrating 10 years of helping cancer patients, people receiving end of life care and older people with mobility issues to keep their companion pets by their side, Rosie’s Trust is partnering with TORC to support Trauma and Orthopaedic patients.
TORC, a charity with a multidisciplinary team of clinicians and research staff working to improve the provision of holistic care for all those with musculoskeletal injury or disease in Northern Ireland, will provide information on Rosie’s Trust services to patients every year.
Rosie’s Trust Operations Manager, Jayne McStay, said:
“When it’s a difficult time, whether through illness or older age, the bond between a person and their pet can be a lifeline – a real source of comfort, love and hope.
“We’re delighted to team up with TORC to support patients aged over 65 years old facing mobility issues to look after their pets, thanks to our amazing team of 200+ volunteers.
“Rather than having to face the very difficult decision of rehoming their pets, Rosie’s Trust can support with daily walks and short-term foster care while the beneficiary is recovering, allowing the person we’re supporting to focus on their own health.”
TORC Charity Director, Janet Hill, added:
“We’re looking forward to joining forces with Rosie’s Trust to support Trauma and Orthopaedic patients, and their recovery by removing the worry of how they are going to look after their pets.
“It was great to have the charity attend our recent sponsored walk and family fun day at Musgrave Park Bowling Pavilion. As well as raising vital funds to support our charity, we were able to spread the word about the services of both TORC and Rosie’s Trust for people across Northern Ireland.”
