Create an 8 to Celebrate!

It’s Rosie’s Trust’s 8th Birthday and we would love you to join us in celebrating this amazing milestone by ‘creating an 8 and donating £8’.

What do you mean ‘Create an 8?’

Well, it’s really simple! Use your fitness app or tracking app to try to create a figure of 8 while you are out getting your daily exercise. It could be walking, running, cycling, skipping…

Make your donation online or via text of just £8 to help us continue our vital work keeping people and their pets together.

How to donate!

TEXT:  EIGHT to 70450
ONLINE: Create an 8

Celebrate 8 years of Rosie’s Trust by sharing a screenshot of your figure of 8 online and tagging @rosiestrust #CreateAn8 on Instagram, Facebook or Twitter!

I don’t have a fitness/tracking App?

Don’t worry – there are lots of free, easy to use Apps that you can download for Apple or Android. Here’s a few of our faves…

Strava – Tracks lots of different activities including walking. You can also create and share your own walking routes with friends as well as looking at heatmaps to see popular routes in your local area.

  • Download Strava for iPhone
  • Download Strava for Android

FitBit – You don’t have to have a FitBit watch to use the app. The Fitbit app can be used to track your walking workouts with GPS as well as your daily steps using the motion sensor on your phone

  • Download for iPhone
  • Download for Windows
  • Download for Android

Map My Walk – Has lots of great features and is really straightforward to use.

  • Download for iPhone
  • Download for Android

Don’t forget, if you have a Garmin, Apple, FitBit or similar watch – they should all have tracking capability!

If all else fails a photo of you out creating your 8 will be just as lovely!

How do I create an 8?

This is just for fun, so it doesn’t have to be perfect but here are some tips for creating an 8:

Go to an open rectangular space like a sports field or large empty carpark, find the centre spot and then walk out to a corner, walk along the short end of the rectangle and then back to the centre sport – repeat for the opposite end. It might take you a few attempts.

Plot it out on the map beforehand and then follow the route.

Or just wing it and see how close you can get to a figure of 8 – It’s the celebrating with us that matters!

Safety first!

– Make sure you tell someone your route beforehand
– Take your phone with you – fully charged
– Wear reflective clothing especially at night
– Stay alert
– Avoid suspicious areas
– Only share your live location with friends and family
– Turn off your start and end point
– Blur out your location before you share your figure of 8 screenshot

Celebrate with us by creating an 8 and donating 8 to help make sure we continue to be here for the people and their pets who need us the most.

KEY DATES: Our Birthday fundraiser runs 20.02.23 to 31.03.23

Providing at home support for your pets and you

Rosie’s Trust is a lifeline to me and Flossy. I would never have been able to manage and would probably have had to give her away. I have a lot of health problems and couldn’t manage without the lovely people at Rosie’s Trust.

- Margaret McCormick

Why Support Us?

Maintaining the special bond between our beneficiaries and their pets

All animal lovers know the joy that their pets’ companionship and unconditional love bring to their lives.

Imagine how it would feel if you had to give up your pet when you’re undergoing cancer treatment and can’t provide your dog or cat with the same level of care you once could.

Rosie’s Trust was set up precisely to help people in such situations to hold on to their beloved pets; the times when they most need the emotional support their animals provide.

There is no other charity or organisation in Northern Ireland providing this service.

Our team of around 150 amazing volunteers provide help and support in all aspects of pet care, including feeding, grooming, exercising, play and stimulation, and vet visits. Our volunteers are our eyes and ears, ensuring when they visit that our beneficiaries are as well as can be and providing welcome social contact for many.

We also have volunteers who foster our beneficiaries’ pets when they need to spend a period of time in hospital or in hospice care. And if the beneficiaries so wish, we also find new homes for their pets when they are no longer able to care for them, including when they die.

“I know personally how devastating a terminal illness can be to the whole family. However, when that person is single and their pets are their lives, then this takes on a whole new dimension. Knowing that their pet is being regularly cared for is a weight off their shoulders.”

“When I became ill, I was very worried that I wasn’t going to be able to look after Todd as I just couldn’t take him for his walks. I was delighted when I was put in contact with Rosie’s Trust who have been an absolute blessing.”

Awesome fundraisers!

Well done to Angel and Rosie, who took part in their Colour Rush on Saturday, 30 July. They really enjoyed this fun event and raised a marvellous £280 for Rosie’s Trust too!

Looking a bit clean here, but if we get a colourful update, we’ll be sure to share it.

If you’d like to give their total a boost, here’s the link to donate:

At Rosie’s Trust our mission is to preserve and protect the special relationship between people and their companion pets. We will do this when that relationship is at risk due to the person receiving a terminal diagnosis, when an older person is living with a disability, or when someone is being treated for cancer.
